The Trustees of the GT Foundation led by the Managing Trustee Dr. V. Ravichandran had the privilege of honoring three of the eminent personalities of India at the Tejo Diya for 2013. The honorees were Mr. Anand Kumar, an Indian mathematician and a Columnist for various National and International mathematical journals and magazines best known for his Super 30 Programme, which he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002 which is to provide free coaching for IIT JEE to the students from economically backward families, Mr. Ranga Pai, a very committed and accomplished Tabla and Violin musicologist, who has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Indian classical music in Udupi District, and Master Aman Rehman, the whiz-kid from Dehra Dun best known as the ‘Little Bill Gates of India’, who is the World’s youngest College Lecturer and Animator, for his contribution in the Animation field.
The chief guests who graced the occasion were Mr. Vinay Kumar Sorake, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development and District in-charge, Udupi and Padmashri D.R. Kaarthikeyan, President Age Care India, and Former Director CBI.
On this occasion, Dr. C. R. Kamath launched a new initiative which is to provide Corneal Transplantation, also known as Corneal Grafting or Keratoplasty, to deserving people from economically challenged families.
During the event, the Foundation felicitated Master Raghavendra Bhat, a 14 year old mathematics, science and music enthusiast from Manipal, best known as the Math Magician from Madhava Kripa English Medium Higher Primary School, Manipal and also Master Danon Saldanha and Master Moideen Thazman, physically challenged excelled sportspersons from the St. Agnes Special School, Mangalore on their great achievement of winning the silver medal in Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games at Australia.
